Pierre-Joseph Formet, better known as Brother Joseph,
settled at the hermitage of Les Buttes,
at an altitude of 900 meters,
in the heart of the High Vosges, where he would live for 33 years.
The first wooden buildings of the hermitage
were replaced by a stone construction,
which can still be seen today a few meters from the current hotel.
Frère Joseph tried to settle in Alsace near the Abbey of Pairis,
but, rejected by the monks,
he returned permanently to his hermitage in Ventron.
Frère Joseph died after spending 33 years at the hermitage
since his arrival.
The Leduc family bought a mountain farm in Ventron
and developed an alpine ski resort there,
marking the beginning of a great sporting and hospitality adventure.
The Moselle entrepreneurs Alexandre Keff and Pierre Singer
took over the Leduc family’s establishments,
which had been closed following the Covid crisis,
with the ambition of bringing the Ventron resort back to life.
The Chalet Frère Joseph, completely renovated into a high-end hotel and spa,
will open its doors after three years of intensive work.
A luxury lodge for 10 people,
set up in the former Ferme du Riant,
will complete the offer of the Mountain Estate,
with a breathtaking view of the Vosges landscape.
6 months after its opening, the Chalet Frère Joseph earns its fifth star,
becoming the first 5-star hotel in the region
and the second in Lorraine, after its sistership, the Domaine de la Klauss.
